About
Doria Wiley Law

Doria Wiley Law provides thorough, prompt, and impartial workplace investigations for both private and public employers. The range of workplace matters we investigate includes:

  • Sexual harassment and other forms of workplace harassment, including racial and religious harassment

  • Discrimination

  • Retaliation for raising workplace complaints

  • Workplace bullying

  • Ethics and code of conduct violations

We bring to our investigations work two decades of experience litigating employment cases on behalf of both employers and employees—cases in which we defended or challenged the adequacy of the employer’s investigation to minimize or establish liability—as well as specialized training in evaluating evidence and interviewing witnesses, assessing credibility, and making objective factual determinations that enable employers to promptly and appropriately respond to employee concerns.

Why hire an independent workplace investigator?

The decision to hire an outside investigator or to utilize internal personnel to investigate a workplace misconduct complaint can have far reaching consequences for employers. Depending on the seriousness and complexity of the particular workplace complaint, the parties involved, and the organization’s structure, retaining a professional third-party investigator helps safeguard the integrity of the investigation by ensuring that:

  • The investigator is free of actual or apparent bias or conflicts of interest

  • The investigator has extensive training, experience, and skill in conducting workplace investigations—including in respectfully interviewing witnesses and establishing rapport, making credibility determinations, and applying the appropriate standard of proof

  • The investigator is empowered to make internally difficult credibility assessments and findings

  • The investigator has the ability and time to quickly and thoroughly complete the investigation

  • Employees feel more comfortable sharing all potentially relevant information

Employers rarely go wrong when opting to hire an experienced, professional workplace investigator. A timely, fair, and comprehensive investigation can increase worker productivity and morale, free-up executives, and human resources personnel to focus on organizational goals, and help preserve the attorney-client privilege between the organization and its in-house or outside counsel.
